Online Training in Autism
Friday, July 30, 2010 Online training in autism therapy is now widely available. Most of the online vendors have just started in the past two years. The better online programs do charge, but families can work on getting school districts to pay their training costs in the IEP. Or, make sure that your aide or para meets their autism training through these online programs.
Here are a selection of popular websites:
rethink autism offers a large video library for parents doing at-home ABA. Their program is geared towards special educators and parents and is user-friendly with web-based datagathering for home and school.
Autism Training Solutions offers training directed at provider and professional agencies, with quizzes to ensure viewers master the material. Organizations seeking to train new employees will find their materials very helpful.
University of Arkansas Graduate Certificate in Autism. This program is offered only to students who are admitted to the graduate school of education at UofA. The only Arkansas-based online training.
Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates offers online tutorials in various aspects of special education law and advocacy. High quality program is somewhat expensive.
UC Davis M.I.N.D. Institute offers free one hour videos of its lecture series on autism. World-renowned educational and medical experts from around the U.S. give talks on subjects such as succeeding in college, early autism diagnosis, and social skills. Temple Grandin gave one of their speeches in 2007.
I've been going through the M.I.N.D. videos and am quite impressed with their quality. Both speakers and Powerpoint presentations are on the videos. I'm trying to get the handouts emailed to me.
Autism University by Future Horizons offers CEU courses from some of the most famous experts in autism studies such as Tony Attwood and Temple Grandin. OT, SLPs, psychologists and many more can receive credits.

Advocate Academy is a newcomer to the online special education advocacy field, but its webinars are much cheaper than those of COPAA. Presenters are all reputable. LINK HERE
