DHS preparing cuts to programs

DHS is preparing a list of programs for cuts of as much as $0.4 billion from its $3.36 billion budget. The Arkansas legislature would review such cuts, but once proposed by DHS, there's a lot of momentum to go along with the proposed program.

As written in the prior story, please contact your state legislator with DHS programs that are valuable to you.  Be very specific and polite; Medicaid is extremely confusing!

If you can, directly contact your state senator and representative about the program cuts.  You can look them up HERE by your home address.

Contact suggestions:

  • Call, email or write them a letter.
  • Don't email all 135 legislators; he or she will quickly figure out what you're doing by your home address, or lack of a home address.
  • Keep it short.  Legislators are getting a lot of contacts every day for help on a variety of programs.
  • Boil down your interests to one or two DHS programs.  Know their DHS name, such as TEFRA, HCBW, so that he or she can communicate with DHS.
  • Thank them for their help.
